Here's a list of specifications for the Pontiac engine from the mid 1950's to 1979. The engine block design was largely unchanged throughout the years. This list was compiled using many sources, both printed and online.

Firing Order
The firing order on all Pontiac engines is as follows:
1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2
Cylinder Numbers
The cylinders on all Pontiac engines are numbered as follows, front to back;
Driver-side: 1-3-5-7
Passenger-side: 2-4-6-8
Deck Height
The piston-to-deck height on all Pontiac engines was always 0.023".
Connecting Rod Dimensions
Rod Length: 6.625"
Big End: 2.250"
Small End: 0.980"
